Medley Relay- A relay where 4 swimmers each swim an equal distance of
backstroke,
breaststroke,
butterfly, and
freestyle, in that order. The freestyle leg may be any stroke except for butterfly, backstroke, or breaststroke, but is typically the front crawl. Relays in swimming are named by the total combined yardage swum by all swimmers, so a 200 yard medley relay means each swimmer swims 200/4 or 50 yards. This is in contrast to track & field, where the same relay would be called a "4x50 medley relay".
